Grace Builds Momentum in Agriculture Commissioner Campaign
Endorsement from Farmers Federation, Fundraising Success Boosts Candidacy

Dorman Grace, Republican candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, has received the endorsement of the Alabama Farmers Federation. The endorsement, coupled with campaign finance reports released yesterday, shows Grace with strong momentum with the election just four months away.

“A third-generation farmer, Dorman is a committed husband and father who has shown a determination to leave the land and community better than he found it. He has won numerous awards for conservation, but it’s his honesty and integrity that have distinguished him as a leader,” said Jerry A. Newby, President of the Alabama Farmers Federation.

Campaign finance statements filed with the Alabama Secretary of State show Grace raised over $150,000 in 2009, a nearly three to one advantage over his nearest Republican competitor. Grace reports a campaign balance of over $133,000 as the campaign enters the homestretch. The same GOP opponent has only $5,000 in his campaign account.

“I’m a conservative Republican, not a career politician or government employee. I understand that government spending is out of control. I’ll use my 30 years’ experience as a successful agribusinessman to bring the right kind of change to Alabama,” said Grace.

With roots deep in Alabama, not politics, Grace is a former Director and past President of the Alabama Poultry & Egg Association. The Grace family was named “Alabama Poultry and Egg Association Farm Family of the Year” in 1990 and 2009.

Grace incorporates environmental best practices on his farm leading to multiple conservation awards from the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) and the Alabama Association of Conservation Districts. He was named the AWF’s “Water Conservationist of the Year” in 1999. Through his leadership in the Alabama 4-H Foundation, Grace was involved in the development of the Environmental Science Education Center completed in 2007. He lives on his Walker County farm with his wife and two sons.
